When the Chinese mobile manufacturer OnePlus on Wednesday revealing that its next smartphone has an iPhone X-like notch, it may have surprised many fans. However, the company has going on to its unconventional ways as it has to launch a new teaser which is showcasing its cryptocurrency.
After the hype over Bitcoin, cryptocurrency has become the fad of the year 2018, as big companies have already jumped on the bandwagon. Similarly, OnePlus may be unveiling its cryptocurrency initiative that is perhaps a secure locker on the phone. However, there is a chance that the teaser is also an early April Fool’s prank by the company.
The OnePlus is known for its April Fool’s pranks, in a 26-second video that is titled “Change is coming,” suggesting a cryptocurrency relating announcement which is about to take place in the coming days. In the video, the company’s co-founder Carl Pei claiming that the manufacturer is now setting out to “reimagine one of the most fundamental elements of our everyday lives that are currency.” Also, a few seconds into the video, a text says “Blockchain Meets Never Settle.”
The company is also sharing the video that its Twitter also handles along with the caption “It is not a coin toss. It is a better way.” At the end of the video, there is a spinning gold-color coin with a OnePlus logo on one side and the face of Carl Pei, on the other. Interestingly, the coin comes with the text “E PLURIBUS PEI-UM which is similar to the traditional motto that is “E Pluribus Unum” in the US.
However, the teaser should be taking with a pinch of salt as in the previous examples like a “Game Changer Drone,” and “Dash Energy Drink” which are enough examples that suggesting the announcement has done in jest in the time for an April Fool’s Day. On the more serious side of things, OnePlus is expecting to launch its latest smartphone that is OnePlus 6 – in Q2 this year.
But there have several leaks and rumors which is surrounding the handset; the company has officially confirmed that it will join the industry trend of “notch” popularising through Apple and even providing an image of how the notch is looking on its next flagship alongside the exact dimensions. Pei has made the revelations in an interview that is also explaining the Chinese company’s motivations for the move.
